IT'S GALA TIME AT THE PATTY BRISBEN FOUNDATION!

Who doesn't love a fabulous party to celebrate and support a good cause? At PBF, we're excited to enjoy an evening with friends, donors, and community members when we host our 11th Annual Gala to benefit the Patty Brisben Foundation for Women's Sexual Health (PBF) on Saturday, October 8th at Greenacres Arts Center! Each year the Gala is one of Cincinnati's best fundraisers, focused on support for women's sexual health research and resources. The 2016 theme is "Cirque du Santé" - celebrating the Circle of Health that connects women everywhere to happier, more satisfying lives! Guests will enjoy an evening full of awe-inspiring acts under the stars, including delectable bites, fine wine, and cocktails.

The event helps fund educational programs led by the Foundation and has assisted in raising more than $3.5 million in funding to support sexual health and well-being research projects and educational initiatives. This exclusive fundraiser sells out annually, so follow the link below to reserve your spot today, or contact PBF staff directly for information on how to be involved as a sponsor or supporter.

KNOW YOUR BODY, KNOW THE FACTS

It's important for women of all ages to tone up and see results from Kegel exercises that strengthen the pubococcygeus (PC) muscles that form the pelvic floor. Performing these exercises is vitally important because studies show it can help women enhance their orgasms and tone PC muscles weakened from vaginal birth.

Pure Romance is proud to offer a line of products that empower women to take control of their sexual health. The Exercise-Her line provides women with a phthalate-free, food-grade silicone weight program that can assist with Kegel exercises and help strengthen a woman's PC muscles.

PBF HIGHLIGHTS NATIONAL YOGA MONTH AND GRANT RECIPIENT - UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN FRANCISCO

September is National Yoga Month and a perfect time to educate people on the health benefits of yoga and how yoga can inspire a healthy lifestyle. Are you wondering how yoga connects to the Patty Brisben Foundation? Thanks to research conducted by one of our grant recipients, the University of CA - San Francisco, we’ve found that practicing yoga can help women with chronic pelvic pain to manage their pain and improve sexual function.

Upon receiving grant funds from PBF, Alison Huang, researcher and Associate Professor of Medicine with the Women's Health Clinical Research Center at UCSF, worked on the development of a therapeutic yoga program to reduce pelvic pain and improve sexual function in women. Chronic pelvic pain is a complex condition that can have adverse effects on female sexual function.

Along with a panel of women’s health clinicians, researchers and experienced yoga instructors, an Iyengar-style yoga therapy program was designed and tested on women reporting moderate-to-severe pelvic pain that interfered with their sexual activity for at least six months. A selected group of 16 women ages 31-64 participated in a group yoga class twice a week, as well as practiced yoga at home for six weeks.

Following the six week program, changes in pelvic pain severity and sexual function were assessed with the 16 participants. The rating for pain severity showed an average decrease of 30% among the group of women, and scores related to their pelvic problem interference with sex scale decreased as well. In addition, seventy five percent of the women felt it would be moderately or very easy to continue practicing yoga to manage their pain. Thank you to Allison and her team for conducting this research with the support of the Patty Brisben Foundation, and identifying a new treatment method for women everywhere struggling with chronic pelvic pain.

We are pleased to share an overview of our 2016 grant funded projects, ranging from counseling programs to research studies within the Foundation’s four key focus areas: Impact of Perimenopause and Menopause on Sexual Health, Intimacy Related Sexual Dysfunction After Cancer Treatments, Vulvovaginal Pain Disorders, & Libido and Desire.
